We apply a standardized, evidence-based screening pathway that can be adapted to different countries and populations while keeping the same core structure. This ensures quality, safety, data protection, and scalability everywhere we work.
Our approach follows international best practices and supports countries in progressing toward the WHO 2030 cervical cancer elimination goals.
HOW WE DO IT
- Community Awareness & Enrollment
Together with local health facilities and partners, women are informed about cervical cancer, its prevention, and available screening options.
Eligible participants are registered, and basic health information is collected electronically.
- HPV Testing as the Primary Screening Method
We use HPV testing as the main screening strategy, which is the international gold standard.
Depending on the setting and women’s preferences, the test can be done through:
– Self-sampling, allowing privacy and reaching women who rarely attend clinics
– Provider-collected samples, performed by trained nurses or midwives
All samples follow the same standardized processing pathway.
- Laboratory Processing & Triage
Cervical samples are sent to a designated local or regional laboratory for:
– High-risk HPV testing
– Biomarker or cytology-based triage, such as CINtec Plus or other validated methods
– Biopsy collection for women with high-risk results, if required
These steps ensure that only women who truly need further evaluation are referred, reducing the burden on health systems and patients.
- Digital Data Management Through OncoPath
All data flows through our secure, cloud-based digital platform, OncoPath, developed with PAiCON.
The platform ensures:
– Secure storage of patient data
– A seamless link between patients, clinics, and laboratories
– Automated result tracking and follow-up reminders
– Standardized workflows across all countries
– Offline functionality, which is essential in rural and low-connectivity regions
OncoPath supports health workers in delivering timely care and minimizing loss to follow-up.
- AI-Assisted Clinical Support
Within OncoPath, we are currently developing and integrating an AI-assisted image evaluation tool to help healthcare workers identify cervical lesions more accurately.
This supports clinicians in decision-making, improves diagnostic consistency, and strengthens systems where specialists are limited.
- Communication of Results & Follow-Up
Women are informed of their results through the most accessible method — SMS, phone call, or home visit.
Those requiring further tests or treatment receive clear guidance and are scheduled promptly.
- Quality Assurance & Long-Term Tracking
All screening results are stored in an anonymized (de-linked) form to support quality assurance, monitoring, and future program planning.
This enables countries to scale up screening nationally using a sustainable, data-driven model.
